DaVita and Colorado Symphony Collaborate for DaVita Day of Music

Musicians from the Colorado Symphony and Denver Young Artists Orchestra to Play Pop-up Concerts at DaVita Dialysis Centers throughout the State

PR Newswire

DENVER, Sept. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Inc. (NYSE:DVA), a leading provider of kidney care services in the United States, today announced DaVita Day of Music, a one-day event featuring pop-up concerts by the Colorado Symphony and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. The musical event will take place at 26 DaVita dialysis centers throughout Colorado on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.

"The Colorado Symphony is a treasure in our community and this event is a terrific way to bring their music to new audiences," said Maggie Anderson, senior vice president for DaVita. "It is our hope that this first-of-its-kind event will bring joy to our patients and teammates in the centers."

According to a study by UCLA Health, for patients on dialysis, the use of music therapy may positively impact quality of life for those on dialysis. In addition, the research shows that music therapy helps with anxiety and pain management, supports emotional wellbeing and optimization of hemodynamic measures, like blood pressure and heart rate.

Currently there are nearly 660,000 individuals living in the United States that have been diagnosed with end stage renal disease.  Of those, approximately 460,000 people are currently on dialysis, a treatment which replaces total kidney function. Dialysis patients typically undergo treatment 3 times per week which last between 3-4 hours each.

"The Colorado Symphony is grateful to DaVita for its many years of support and we're thrilled to support DaVita in return for the Day of Music," said Tony Pierce, chief artistic officer for the Colorado Symphony. "Our musicians look forward to using the power of music to create a positive impact on our community."

The pop-up concerts will be shared live throughout the day on the DaVita Kidney Care Facebook page at facebook.com/davitakidneycare.
