"Make It a Date" to Start Something Priceless with Mastercard and Stand Up To Cancer

Business Wire 1-Oct-2018 3:00 PM

Mindy Kaling Encourages Everyone to Dine Out on 10/10 to Support Cancer Research

Mindy Kaling joined Mastercard and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) today to encourage people to get together and "Make It a Date" on October 10 by dining out with a Mastercard to support cancer research. The date of the campaign, 10/10, is in recognition of SU2C's efforts over its first ten years to turn every cancer patient into a long-term survivor.

The premise is simple: for 24 hours on October 10, "Make It a Date" with your family, your friends, and your colleagues by dining out for a meal and paying with your Mastercard. When you dine out on 10/10 and spend $10 or more using your Mastercard, Mastercard will donate $1 to SU2C, up to $4 million*. Every meal counts— breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

"Collaboration is integral to the work Stand Up To Cancer is doing in cancer research and it's great to see companies like Mastercard engaged in supporting this cause," said actress, producer and SU2C ambassador Mindy Kaling. "Getting involved in the ‘Make It a Date' campaign will help save lives, which is why I'm honored to lend my voice to help raise awareness."

With the help of millions of cardholders, Mastercard has donated more than $41 million to SU2C over the last 9 years. The company's support has helped SU2C deliver breakthroughs in clinical trials and get new treatments to patients quickly to save lives now. SU2C supported research has also led to the FDA approval of five new cancer therapies, including treatments for breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers and certain difficult-to-treat leukemias.

"We all know someone affected by cancer, from close friends to family members, and that's why Mastercard continues to be a proud supporter of Stand Up To Cancer," said Cheryl Guerin, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Mastercard. "With our ‘Make It a Date' campaign, we are encouraging cardholders to Start Something Priceless by supporting a powerful cause with an everyday activity they already enjoy – dining out – to drive donations and further the impact SU2C can make in putting an end to this disease."

"Our collaboration with Mastercard over the last nine years demonstrates the incredible impact we can have when we stand together in the fight against cancer," said Rusty Robertson, Stand Up To Cancer Co-Founder. "At Stand Up To Cancer, we hope everyone will ‘Make It a Date' to dine out with friends and family on October 10th. Together, we can raise the awareness and the critical funds needed to make everyone diagnosed with cancer a long-term survivor."

About Stand Up To Cancer

STAND UP TO CANCER (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. A division of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), SU2C was established in 2008 by media and entertainment leaders who utilize these communities' resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, to increase awareness about cancer prevention, and to highlight progress being made in the fight against the disease. As of April 2018, more than 1,500 scientists representing more than 180 institutions are involved in SU2C-funded research projects.

Under the direction of our Scientific Advisory Committee, led by Nobel laureate Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D., staff at SU2C and the American Association for Cancer Research, our Scientific Partner, implement rigorous competitive review processes to identify the best research proposals to recommend for funding, oversee grants administration, and ensure collaboration across research programs. Current members of the SU2C Council of Founders and Advisors (CFA) include Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Kathleen Lobb, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Pamela Oas Williams, and Ellen Ziffren. The late Laura Ziskin and the late Noreen Fraser are also co-founders. Sung Poblete, Ph.D., R.N., serves as SU2C's president and CEO.
