The fund’s primary investment objective is to provide a high level of current income, consistent with preservation of capital. The fund’s secondary investment objective is to provide growth of capital to the extent consistent with its primary investment objective. The fund seeks to achieve its investment objectives by investing in securities that, in the opinion of the Advisor, may be undervalued relative to similar securities in the marketplace. Under normal market conditions, the fund invests at least 80% of its assets (net assets plus borrowings for investment purposes) in preferred stocks and other preferred securities, including convertible preferred securities. In addition, the fund will invest 25% or more of its total assets in the industries comprising the utilities sector. The fund will invest at least 65% of its total assets in preferred securities and other fixed-income securities which are rated investment grade (i.e., at least “Baa” by Moody’s Investors Service, Inc. (“Moody’s”) or “BBB” by Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services (“S&P”)) or in unrated securities determined by the Advisor to be of comparable credit quality. In addition, the fund can invest up to 35% of its total assets in preferred securities and other fixed income securities that are rated below investment grade at the time of acquisition or in unrated preferred securities or unrated fixed income securities determined by the Advisor to be of comparable quality. The below investment grade securities in which the fund invests may be rated as low as ‘‘Ca’’ by Moody’s or ‘‘CC’’ by S&P, provided that the fund will not invest more than 5% of its total assets in securities rated below ‘‘B’’ at the time of investment.
