Apple cancels work on Mac-connected augmented reality glasses: report

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has shut down work on advanced augmented reality glasses that could be paired with its devices, Bloomberg reported Friday, according to people with knowledge of the move.

The program was shuttered this week, the report said.

Bloomberg said the product – code-named N107 – would have looked like regular glasses but have built-in displays and required to be connected to a Mac, according to the people.

Work on the N107 was called off after the company tried to revamp its design, the people reportedly said. Apple reportedly wanted to have the device pair with the iPhone, but it ran into how much power the smartphone could deliver. The company then focused on linking the N107 to a Mac computer.

However, Bloomberg said, the Mac-connected device did not perform well in reviews with Apple executives.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
