Nokia, Amazon sign patent agreement for video technologies
Seeking Alpha News (Mon, 31-Mar 5:45 AM)
Nokia (NYSE:NOK) has signed a patent agreement with Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), granting access to its video technologies for use in Amazon’s streaming services and devices.
The deal resolves all patent litigation between the companies, in all jurisdictions, with terms remaining confidential.
In 2023, Nokia (NYSE:NOK) took a legal action against Amazon for the unauthorized use of its video-related technologies in its streaming services, with cases filed in the U.S., Germany, India, the U.K., and the European Unified Patent Court.
The Finnish telecoms firm claimed that Amazon Prime Video and Amazon’s streaming devices infringed a mix of its multimedia patents covering multiple technologies, including video compression, content delivery, content recommendation and aspects related to hardware.
The company said at the time that it was seeking compensation for the use of its inventions, with royalties that will be reinvested—alongside significant additional investments—into advancing next-generation multimedia technology.
