Media and cable giant Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has announced plans for Europe's "first-ever" Universal Theme Park.

Along with the theme park, the proposed project will also include a 500-room hotel and a retail, dining, and entertainment complex located south of Bedford, UK, built on a 476-acre parcel of land purchased by the company back in 2023.

“Bringing the Universal brand to the United Kingdom is another exciting step forward in generating future growth. Expanding into Europe presents us with a significant opportunity to reach new fans and share the incredible experiences our team creates,” Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, Mark Woodbury, said.

The company’s Universal Destinations & Experiences segment will oversee the design and delivery of the project, which is subject to securing planning approval.

A planning proposal will be submitted to the UK government in the coming months with an expected construction start date in 2026, the company said in its blog Wednesday.
