'A Minecraft Movie' now the highest-grossing movie of 2025

"A Minecraft Movie” is now the highest-grossing of the year, bringing in another $80.6M at the weekend box office, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

None of the four movies that rounded out the top five in ticket sales  that opened Friday came close to the videogame adaption’s numbers. 

“The King of Kings,” a Christrian-themed movie based on the life of Christ, finished second with $19.1M, and the action film, “The Amateur” finished third with $17.2M. “Warfare,” based on a Navy SEAL mission in Iraq in 2006, earned $8.3M, and Blumhouse thriller “Drop” rounded out the top five with $7.5M. 

The top 10 movies at U.S. and Canadian box offices from Friday through Sunday were, according to Comscore: 

1. “A Minecraft Movie,” $80.6M.

2. “The King of Kings,” $19.1M.

3. “The Amateur,” $15M.

4. “Warfare,” $8.3M.

5. “Drop,” $7.5M.

6. “The Chosen: Last Supper (Part 3),” $6M.

7. “A Working Man,” $3.1M.

8. “Snow White,” $2.8M.

9. “The Woman in the Yard,” $2.1M.

10. “The Chosen: Last Supper (Part 2),” $932K.
