Nintendo Switch 2 details revealed at Direct event; Here's all you need to know

Nintendo (OTCPK:NTDOY) (OTCPK:NTDOF) on Wednesday said the Switch 2 console will be available for purchase on June 5 for $449.99 in the United States.

The Switch 2 comes with a larger screen and new Joy-Con 2 controllers, each of which can now be used as a mouse in compatible games, the company said during its Direct presentation.

A bundle pack, which includes the new Mario Kart World game, will be available for $499.99 in the U.S. and will also be launched on the same day.

In the UK, Switch 2 will be starting from £395.99 and €469.99 in Germany. The latest console from the Japanese gaming giant will be available for preorder in North America on April 9 and in Europe on April 8.

The Console

The Switch 2 comes with a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, but games can be played in 4K on TV with up to 120 fps via the dock connection. The console has 256GB of storage, which is expandable only via microSD Express cards.

The new NS2 Joy-Cons use a magnetic locking system, and its game cartridges are red.

New Features

The right Joy-Con comes with a "C button," which enables the GameChat feature, where users can communicate with each other while playing. The feature will have open access until March 31, 2026, the company said.

Nintendo also revealed GameShare, which will allow players to share and play the same game with others who do not have it. 

"If one person has a Nintendo Switch 2 system and a game compatible with GameShare, that person can invite others to temporarily play the same game together via local play with their Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system," the company said. 

The Games

The console will be able to play three types of games: Nintendo Switch 2 games or the exclusives, old Nintendo Switch games, and Nintendo Switch 2 edition games, which are basically games released on the predecessor but optimized and upgradable via expansion packs for a fresher gameplay experience.

The company highlighted that the new console may play compatible physical and digital games released on its predecessor, but some games may not be supported or fully compatible.

New titles: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, FC Sports, Madden NFL, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Project 007, and Borderlands 4, among others.

Switch 2 edition titles: Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokémon Legends Z-A, among others.

New Gadgets

The company is launching an NS2 Pro controller and a new camera for video chats within the game.It also announced a new GameCube controller, which will allow users to play classic games. The new gadgets will be available on the same day as launch day.
