U.S. rig count falls for third straight week, Baker Hughes says

The number of active rigs drilling for oil and gas in the U.S. fell for a third consecutive week, sliding by 7 to 583, the biggest weekly decline since June 2024, Baker Hughes said Friday in its latest report.

This week's decline reduces the total rig count by 34 rigs, or 6%, below this time last year.

Drilling rigs targeting crude oil in the U.S. fell by 9 to 480, while gas rigs rose by 1 to 97 and 6 rigs were classified as miscellaneous.

Rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin dropped by 5 to 286, while the oil rig count in the Eagle Ford lost 1 to 41 and the Williston Basin stayed flat at 32.
