Trump unlikely to specify any pharma tariffs in ‘Liberation Day’ announcement: Reuters

President Donald Trump will not include specifics on any tariffs on pharmaceutical goods as part of a broader set of tariffs he is expected to announce on Wednesday—a day his administration has dubbed "Liberation Day," Reuters reported.
While Wall Street is bracing for Trump's "Liberation Day” tariff plans, which his regime has touted as a response to “unfair trade practices” of foreign nations and an attempt to boost local manufacturing, drugmakers can breathe a sigh of relief, according to the Reuters report on Tuesday.
Citing four sources familiar with the matter, the news agency reported that in an effort to reduce their economic impact and allow time to move production from overseas, pharma companies are lobbying Trump for an incremental ramp-up of tariffs instead of full-scale implementation.
Since the start of his second term, President Trump has repeatedly threatened to expand his tariff war to pharmaceutical goods, which have long been spared from trade wars due to public health impact.
However, bracing for an eventual imposition of U.S. tariffs targeted at medical goods, Big Pharma is now pushing for a gradual ramp-up to 25% tariffs, rather than a 25% cut from the first day of implementation.
"The idea of incremental ramp-up of tariffs, a sort of gradation if you will, is definitely out there from the pharma industry side," one of the sources said.
