Neuralink patient registry now open globally, company says
Seeking Alpha News (Wed, 02-Apr 3:11 PM)
- Neuralink, the neurotechnology company co-founded by Elon Musk, announced on Wednesday that its patient registry is now available globally.
- The company made the announcement via a post on X, the social network led by Musk. Musk is also the CEO of Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), SpaceX (SPACE) and generative artificial intelligence company xAI.
- Musk said earlier this week that Neuralink's brain chip, Blindsight, could be implanted into a human patient for the first time in late 2025. In January, Musk said between 20 and 30 patients could receive upgraded versions of the experimental brain-computer implant developed by Neuralink this year.
- Neuralink’s technology, known as a brain-computer interface, consists of a skull-mounted, wireless implant connected to the brain via electrode threads. The rechargeable device is designed to help patients with neurological conditions such as limb paralysis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) control computers and other external devices only with their thoughts.
- Since receiving the FDA clearance to start human trials in 2023, Neuralink is currently running two U.S.-based trials, PRIME and CONVOY, to evaluate BCI.
- Neuralink raised $280M in a Series D funding round in August 2023.
